How to migrate an old SWL (in C:\Ham\Swisslog) to C:\Swisslog on a new computer? - DK8NT - 29-07-2025

On a new Win 11 PC I installed Swisslog 5.113 in C:\Swisslog, as recommended.

On my old PC, SWL 5.101a was in C:\Ham\Swisslog (sorry ;-).

I then copied my old Swlog_v5.mdb into C:\Swisslog\DB on the new PC, overwriting the blank, new Swlog_v5.mdb there.
After starting Swisslog, I get „'C:\Ham\Swisslog\Swlstat.mdb' ist kein zulässiger Pfad. …“
which means that C:\Ham\Swisslog\Swlstat.mdb doesn’t exist – OK, this is a path on the _old_ PC, obviously somewhere hidden in my old Swlog_v5.mdb!

I’ve played around for some time trying several ways out, to no avail.

So the question is:
How do I migrate my old SWL 5.101a (in C:\Ham\Swisslog), INCLUDING ALL DATA, to C:\Swisslog on my new computer?

Hi Gerd,

You did it correctly. This message appears the first time you open Swislsog because the internal links to the statistic and country tables still links to the old path. Open Swislsog again and should work well.

But this operation only works to migrate the database. If you want to migrate the whole folder you will have to do some more work.  Please read this thread:

https://www.swisslogforwindows.com/forum...w+computer

Please ignore the step to copy the ENV files from the map function and the save/restore your database in LZH format. All other steps are ok.

If you have doubts don't hesitate to write an e-mail or post a message here.

Hi Jordi,

mni tnx for your fast reply!

Indeed (unexpectedly ;-), after starting SWL once more, there was no error message, and the log window now shows all QSOs from my "migrated" DB! That's great.

I removed some columns from the log that I don't need (e.g. the LOTW columns), and then wanted to switch on the "Event" column - but the little Column selection subwindow only shows the columns which I had removed. So how can I get other colums to display, e.g. "Event"?

And BTW, your link  https://www.swisslogforwindows.com/forum...w+computer says that the thread doesn't exist...

Thanks again and 73s

Hi,

As I told you, when starting Swisslog all links are rebuilt again and no error message.

I can see this thread... please try this: https://www.swisslogforwindows.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=370&highlight=new+computer

However, although you can display this thread, don't do anything else. In your case it's much better as it is now using the default settings.

Regarding your question, if you have removed the columns from the query editor you will have to edit again the query and add the missing field. From the logbook view you can "hide" and show windows from the Column selector. Anyway, if you want to startover with the logbook view, go to the C:\Swisslog\Queries\Logbook folder then delete the files with RPL extension. These files are the user customization. When you open again the query it will be displayed as it is originally (unless you edited the query with the query editor and saved it!).

I highly suggest you read the Logbooks views chapter in the Swisslog help or here: https://www.swisslogforwindows.com/german/Help/Logbook/Logbook%20View.htm

Those of us who are not worthy, cannot read that thread!

Not that Gerd needs it but for anyone else, the text of the thread is here:

Hi Jordi and Erik,

thank you both for you replies, both were very helpful!

So I succeeded to add the column "Anlass" (MY_EVENT) to my simple (and only) logbook view, and can use it to filter to a single contest. And so I'll probably be fine now again with Swisslog, without the (immediate) need to dig deeper into this universe!

A big thankyou to everybody involved in maintaining this great tool!
