Speed up QSO saving procedure - EA3GCV - 05-07-2021

Hello,

User's having large database with thousands of QSO and/or slow computers may experience long delays when saving QSOs. Working pile-ups on SSB or CW may slow down the logging operation. Here is a list of things to review (and experiment) to speed up the saving process of QSOs:

  • World Map: by default, map is redrawn automatically after saving or edit a QSO to reflect DXCC/Grid changes . You can disable this function by selecting the World Map then unchecking the "Update map automatically" from the Maps... menu.
  • Statistic Quick views: Swisslog refreshes all these views automatically after saving a QSO. This is necessary to reflect the new statistic status. If you have many of them you may add some extra time when saving. If you want to disable this function, edit the SWISSLV5.INI file and add this line in the COMMON section: SkipRefreshQuickInfo=1
  • Realtime saving on online logbooks: although this process uses multithreading and it's very optimised, it will add some extra time because needs to get a reply from the online logbook. If you need to work fast I suggest to uncheck realtime saving in Options > Online logbooks then uncheck the "Upload QSO automatically.." option on every online logbook. At the end of your day go to Tools menu and Upload logbook on every online logbook. Swisslog will only upload pending QSOs since last time.
  • Logbook views: by default logbook views are refreshed automatically to reflect all QSO you have just entered. You can disable this by unchecking the "Refresh view automatically" in the popup menu.

Under normal conditions you don't need to do anything and Swisslog will give you the most updated info. But if you want to save QSO faster losing some functioning then apply one or all of the above hints. It's a matter of test and try.
