Hello,

User's having large database with thousands of QSO and/or slow computers may experience long delays when saving QSOs. Working pile-ups on SSB or CW may slow down the logging operation. Here is a list of things to review (and experiment) to speed up the saving process of QSOs:

First of all it's VERY IMPORTANT to add exception to the C:\Swisslog folder in your antivirus and also allow all incoming/outgoing communications to the SwisslV5.exe in your firewall. Otherwise you may experience slowdowns, violations errors and unexpected issues.

Compress your database in File / Compress database. This usually solves many performance issues.

World Map: by default, map is redrawn automatically after saving or edit a QSO to reflect DXCC/Grid changes . You can disable this function by selecting the World Map then unchecking the "Update map automatically" from the Maps... menu.

Statistic Quick views: Swisslog refreshes all these views automatically after saving a QSO. This is necessary to reflect the new statistic status. If you have many of them you may add some extra time when saving. If you want to disable this function, edit the SWISSLV5.INI file and add this line in the COMMON section: SkipRefreshQuickInfo=1

Realtime saving on online logbooks: although this process uses multithreading and it's very optimised, it will add some extra time because needs to get a reply from the online logbook. If you need to work fast I suggest to uncheck realtime saving in Options > Online logbooks then uncheck the "Upload QSO automatically.." option on every online logbook. At the end of your day go to Tools menu and Upload logbook on every online logbook. Swisslog will only upload pending QSOs since last time.

Logbook views: by default logbook views are refreshed automatically to reflect all QSO you have just entered. You can disable this by unchecking the "Refresh view automatically" in the popup menu.

Under normal conditions you don't need to do anything and Swisslog will give you the most updated info. But if you want to save QSO faster losing some functionality then apply one or all of the above hints. It's a matter of test and try.
When you have finished to configure the functions you like to see in the Swisslog desktop (even with 2 monitors), it's highly advisable to save your configuration. Go to Options / Save desktop, give it a name and press OK. You can have as many different saved desktops as you prefer. This is very useful because:
- Maybe you want to have different desktop configurations according yours preferences of operation or if using one monitor, two monitors etc.
- If you have checked the option to Save desktop on exit, sometimes may happen that after startup your desktop has not been restored as you like (i.e.: after a crash). If you have saved your desktop you can restore it easily in Options / Restore desktop and everything will be in place as you like.
Desktop information is saved in the Swisslog configuration file SWISSLV5.INI (located where Swisslog is installed). I suggest to make regular backup copies of this file because it contains all Swisslog preferences!

Swisslog implements some "hidden" settings for advanced users. You may find interesting to know them to solve some specific scenarios:

- You don't want to be warned anymore to update the following member lists: LoTW, eQSL, EA QRP, Lynx DX Group and URE: users may disable these warnings by disabling the associated statistic in Options / Active statistics. However, LoTW, eQSL, EA QRP, Lynx DX Group and URE don't have any associated statistic, so this solution is not valid. To avoid the warning to update these information tables you have to perform the following steps:

Search in the Swisslog folder if file InactiveStatistics.txt exists (This file exists when you have disabled any statistic).
Add a line with any of these names (belonging to the information table you want to disable): LOTW, EQSL, EAQRP, LYNX or URE. This file may look like this (numbers are the ID of the disabled statistics, if any):

DIG, AGCW, and Ten-Ten International are organizations that promote amateur radio activities and encourage contact with other club members. Generally, these organizations issue a membership number to their members – the membership number is therefore associated with an individual's callsign. Often these clubs issue awards based on completing a certain number of QSO's with other club members and this requires a method of tracking these unique contacts. SWISSLOG implements a lot of statistics for tracking these QSO's then the membership number will be inserted automatically into the QSO.
However, in some situations when you import QSO's or activate the statistic after there is a large number of QSO's in the log, the member number might not be present in every QSO.
